Lee Goreas // Driving

Based in Toronto installation artist Lee recent work is comprised of wall drawings interactive sculptures based on games and sports poetic text works Drive spell in advertising and document videos shot in various Parkades. Viewers are invited to race custom remote control cars around a figure 8 track and watch a loop of the video out the front window of the artist car as it spirals down the exit ramp of a parquet into downtown Victoria while Johnny Cash's Burning Ring of Fire plays on the car stereo. In his work the artist explores his relationship to institutional and popular culture using humor and not only to entertain but as a vehicle for criticism


Lee is a multidisciplinary artist known for making site considered installations and singular works using video, drawing, sculpture, digital animation, text and photography. His work has and continues to explore the unexpected relationships between institutional and pop culture. Goreas has received grants from the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council and the British Columbia Arts Council. His work has been exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally and can be found in both public and private collections. In the Summer of 2020 Lee participated in EXC-19, an online video project wherein he contributed to the co-production of 22 video works. Several of his contributions to this group project involved image editing and sound design.
