Join artist Patrick Lundeen for a conversation about good art, bad art and anything in between. Artists and creatives from all disciplines and stages of their careers are welcome to join at one of two ZOOM sessions on Thursday, May 14, 6-7 p.m. and Friday, May 15, 2-3 p.m.
Register to participate on our Eventbrite page.
Patrick will be on hand to talk about and take your questions about taste in relation to some of the functions of art within contemporary culture. This session is not set up to define what constitutes good taste vs. bad taste (this has proven to be an impossible task), instead it acknowledges that bad taste, while in some form has always existed, is a fluid and subjective discourse that changes continuously over time:
What makes an artwork good/bad?
Is it a matter of taste?
What makes taste good/bad?
Can art be intentionally bad?
What if you try to make good art and fail?
What if you try to make bad art and succeed?
What is the worst thing you can do in art?
Alternator Chats are informal sessions are ideal for those who are interested in engaging with each other and Alternator staff about projects that they are continuing, are researching or have started new and can be used as a sounding board for processing your new practices, methods and approaches to your practice, especially during this time of isolation. We ask that participants register in advance on Eventbrite.
Both sessions are free and open to the public. Participation in both sessions is limited to a maximum of eight (8) people. Participants will be provided with a Zoom link to join their session.

For many artists and creatives, livelihoods, processes for making work, and inspiration have all been upended by COVID-19. Alternator Chat was created in response to the closure of the Alternator's gallery and office as a way to connect with our members and the art community-at-large around different themes and relevant to artists today.
