Faint, watercolor and glitter on paper, 30" x 22", April 20, 2022.
Faint, is a watercolor piece from a series called Letters from the Mountains. The series was created to reflect on my experience relocating back to Canada, where I was raised since the age of four, and made so many memories with people I love. Working and living in isolation away from friends and family for the past three years, I felt how foreign Canada is to me. Noticing how my throat and body felt hollow despite having come home to where I grew up. How do we find a sense of belonging, post pandemic? What will it take to reconnect again and feel whole and complete? How do we process all that's happened to us in a meaningful way? An experience that carried both loss and personal transformation? Making art is a way to do that for us. A method to make sense of the unprecedented experience. With hope that it will support us through our transformation and emotions.
