Annerose Georgeson // Spirea
Fifteen years ago the pine trees around our house died in the mountain pine beetle epidemic. My logger brother cut down the affected trees and for a while we lived in a clearcut. The little pine seedlings in our clearcut have now grown over my head. For the last couple years, I've been drawing our regrowing forest and my paintings are based on these drawings. I sit out on the beetle killed pine stumps near our house and draw what is on the ground right by my feet. I've spent a lot of time here. I walk here every day and observe and document the land. I know it well. This place was and is the inspiration for as long as I've been making art.
Annerose Georgeson lives near Vanderhoof, on the same farmland and forest where she grew up. She was born in Switzerland and as a child immigrated with her family to Canada. She has shown her artwork in many solo exhibitions in public galleries in BC and Alberta. Annerose has a BFA in Visual Arts from UVic and is a part-time instructor at CNC’s Fine Arts program in Prince George. Georgeson makes paintings and drawings about the forest that surrounds her. She is currently working on paintings about the forest floor, examining what is right under her feet.
